Field Federation Adult Learning (FIFAL) is using the Create eLearning learning management system (LMS) to help it provide education for adults aiming to develop skills to improve their quality of life.

FIFAL is a department within Churchfield Primary School, in Edmonton, north London, which now provides programmes such as English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), Childcare, Childminding, Teaching Assistant and Early Years Educator courses from Entry Level to Level 3 diploma. Currently, it enrols between 100 and 180 learners a year on its programmes.

As FIFAL’s activities have grown – particularly since these happen in two locations and online too – they need an amount of administration and monitoring that can only be done efficiently via a computer system.

Having initially devised their own system, Asli Akkoyunoglu, FIFAL’s Community Learning Leader, and her team opted for the Create eLearning platform. This comprises both an LMS and a virtual classroom that caters for coaching, mentoring, online and face-to-face training/ learning. It went ‘live’ at the beginning of the 2015/16 academic year.

Asli commented, “All our programmes support the local community in producing an enhanced quality of life and building stronger families, with the provision of high quality and in-demand learning opportunities for adults.”

She added, “We believe that providing education to parents of children at the school, parents-to-be and even those from the wider community will reflect on the children’s learning and development and raise attainment levels. It will also present the children with positive role models – encouraging them to develop respectable personalities.”
