In a move designed to attract potential high quality e-learning suppliers from the UK, EdTrIn, the global online education provider, is holding an event at the Australian High Commission in London, from 9am to 10.30am on 25th July.
EdTrIn, which is advised on strategy by market analysts Learning Light – an organisation which also helps organisations to improve their business performance via e-learning and learning technologies – hopes that the event will:
- Encourage education and training content providers – including universities and colleges; corporate training organisations, and professional associations – to use the EdTrIn platform to deliver their products and services internationally
- Increase awareness of EdTrIn among the edtech community in the UK and Europe
- Attract interest from the edtech investment community; the UK Government, and its agencies
In addition to an introduction by EdTrIn’s CEO, Graeme Coomber, guests at the event will hear from other EdTrIn senior executives including Dr Abdul Khan (COO, global education and training solutions) and Jim Dickson (Director, UK acquisitions).
Born in India and with a PhD in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, Dr Abdul Khan has lengthy international experience in designing, planning and managing information and communications technology (ICT) applications for education, the sciences, culture, agriculture and rural development.
A former Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) from 2001 to 2010, Dr Khan was also Vice-Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (India) – a university which, today, serves the educational aspirations of over 4m students in India and 36 other countries through 21 Schools of Studies and a network of 67 regional centres, around 3,000 learner support centres and 67 overseas centres.
In addition to hearing a presentation from Dr Abdul Khan, delegates will also hear about the corporate e-learning market in China, from David Patterson, a Director of Learning Light. David is one of the authors of a recently published report – A Review of the e-learning markets of the UK, EU and China 2014.
“In 2011, China’s GDP represented 11.77% of the world economy. Its education and training markets were valued at some US$220bn,” said David. “The number of potential adult learners in the country appears to have grown at a rate of some 18%, year on year, from 2006 until 2010 – and now seems to be growing at an even faster rate.
“Our research indicates that the past year has seen the Chinese e-learning market grow more than in any other year to date,” he added. “Employees are changing their learning habits, prompted by the increasing use of evolving learning technologies, and companies are, increasingly, developing their own e-learning content.
“As the Learning Light report illustrates, there’s not just a large and growing market for learning in China but budgets exist to provide that learning,” he said. “This rapid market growth in e-learning – along with similar growth in other of the world’s economies – is providing the impetus for EdTrIn’s initiative.”
